Some Frequently Asked Questions... Q: Why doesn't D & A Auto Body repair these damaged vehicles? A: We are normally booked 1-2+ weeks out with insurance work. Sometimes, during the summer months, we will repair some of these vehicles if insurance work is slow. Q: Why do a lot of these vehicle have Salvage titles? A: We buy quite a few of our vehicles from the Chicago area. Due to a state law, the State of Illinois gives all vehicles that are considered 'totaled' by an insurance company a Salvage title. Vehicles 'totaled' in Michigan can retain Clean titles, but in many cases these vehicles have far more damage than other 'totaled' vehicles with Salvage titles from Illinios and Michigan. Michigan's insurance companies are very inconsistent when assigning title status to 'totaled' vehicles. Q: Do you sell parts? A: Yes and No. We normally don't sell new OEM parts, but once in awhile we'll have something used available. We will sell new, aftermarket parts for our cost + 10% extra for handling to buyers of our repairable vehicles. Also, we always suggest buyers use the website www.car-part.com for factory, OEM used parts. This is the best website available and it will connect you directly with your local salvage yard that has the part(s) you're looking for. Also, when dealing with deployed airbags, try www.myairbags.com to get air bag control modules reprogrammed for a fraction of the price of a new unit. Q: Do you have repair estimates on these vehicles? A: No, we don't write repair cost estimates on these vehicles. Our estimators stay busy writing insurance work estimates. Repair costs will depend on where you get your parts and who does your work. The more work you can do yourself, the more money you will save. Labor costs are many times half of an insurance quality repair estimate. Q: Do you ever get repairable trucks for sale? A: Yes, but not as often as we would like. A lot of the damaged trucks we see are either hit hard and need frames, or they are rolled over and need most of the structure & sheetmetal. We're selective along the lines of damage when purchasing our vehicles. Q: Are you a dealer? A: Yes, we are a registered Michigan used car dealer. Q: What additional fees are collected when a 'repairable' vehicle is purchased? A: For Michigan residents, we collect 6% sales tax and a $15 title fee. A purchaser will only pay sales tax once to the State of Michigan for each vehicle purchased. For out of state buyers, we only collect the purchase price of the vehicle. Sales tax will be collected by their state of residence when applying for a new title. Q: Do you charge a 'processing' fee when selling a car? A: No!! Most dealerships will charge a 'processing' fee (usually between $100-$200+) to type up and process paperwork. We've always felt that's a rip off. Q: Will banks finance vehicles with Salvage titles? A: In almost every instance, the answer is no. However, some people have arranged for 'personal loans'. Also, once a vehicle has been repaired and assigned a 'rebuilt title', then most banks will loan money on that vehicle. Q: Do you take requests for specific vehicles? A: In most cases, no. We try to keep an inventory with a variety of quality vehicles, but a search for a 'specific vehicle' can take a long time and never seems to work out. Q: How do I contact a Salvage vehicle inspector (for Michigan residents) for a Salvage vehicle recertification? A: A list of Salvage vehicle inspectors, by county, can be found at www.mi.gov. Search 'Salvage vehicle inspector' in the provided search bar. When viewing the results, a link for a blank inspection form can also be found at the same location. Q: Do you take trade-ins? A: No. Q: How do you price your vehicles? A: We reference NADA.com for pricing on our newer vehicles along with taking into cosideration the damage and our investment. On older vehicles with lower miles, NADA pricing is somewhat referenced, but in many cases we price vehicles along the lines of what we feel they're worth. Q: What does FWD mean? A: Front Wheel Drive. Q: What does RWD mean? A: Rear Wheel Drive. Q: What does AWD mean? A: All Wheel Drive Q: What does 4x4/4WD mean? A: Four Wheel Drive. Since it first appeared during the 1980s, crack cocaine has made its mark on users. According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, part of its popularity is due to the fact that almost anyone can make it, provided that he has the right tools, and it can be purchased in smaller, cheaper quantities than powdered cocaine. Producers make the drug by mixing cocaine with ammonia, baking soda and water. As the water dissolves, dried crystals, known as crack cocaine, form. Users typically insufflate (snort) or inject powdered cocaine, but people who use crack typically smoke the substance, although it can also be injected. Smoking the drug produces a faster, more intense high than snorting does because it reaches the bloodstream and brain more quickly. However, the effects of smoking cocaine are shorter in duration, lasting only 5 to 10 minutes verses 15 to 30 minutes for insufflated powder. Some of the potential dangers associated with using crack include: Potential for Crack Cocaine Addiction According to an article in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology, crack use is associated with a higher rate of dependence than use of powdered cocaine. Crack cocaine gives the user an intense, euphoric feeling. The first time a person uses crack, he or she feels an initial high that cannot be recreated by subsequent use. Users sometimes describe this as a feeling unlike anything else in the world. Once the person feels experiences this initial high, he may spend years trying to chase this feeling. In this attempt, he may take increasing amounts, putting himself of risk of overdose. This pattern of compulsively chasing an elusive euphoric feeling is the basis of the mental illness known as addiction, and it can only take one use for a person to develop an addiction to crack. Short-Term Effects of Crack The short-term physical and mental effects of using crack are generally more intense than the effects from snorting powdered cocaine and are similar to what is experienced when injecting cocaine. These effects are also similar to other commonly abused stimulants such as methamphetamine. Because crack is produced in unregulated settings from cocaine of inconsistent purity and quality, the precise effects vary greatly but generally include: Crack Effects Quiz question 2 Crack Effects Quiz question 3 Video: Crack Cocaine and Your Brain The following video shows how your brain is affected by crack cocaine use and how using it can lead to dependence, addiction, and an array of negative effects. To learn more, visit our blog, Crack Cocaine's Effect on Brain . Side Effects The fleeting high from smoking crack can be supplanted by a host of negative effects. Though these can vary as widely as the positive effects listed above, commonly reported side effects include: While users claim to feel euphoric or high when using crack, there are some paradoxical drawbacks to using crack; the initial euphoria can quickly turn to feelings of depression and paranoia. People experiencing crack-induced paranoia might find themselves thinking that someone is trying to get into their house, that someone is following them, or that others are trying to attack them. This can lead to aggressive behavior or unprovoked attacks on others and lead to dangerous situations for both the user and innocent bystanders. Crack Effects Quiz question 4 Long-Term Effects of Crack In addition to negative short-term effects, long-term crack cocaine abuse can have even more pronounced drawbacks that affect users even when they are not getting high. A short list of the most serious effects includes: Crack Dependency Because crack use itself is known to cause depression and anxiety, using it to alleviate these feelings becomes a vicious cycle quickly resulting in addiction. People of any age and gender can become dependent on crack. Crack dependency occurs after users develop a tolerance to the drug and begin using more often and in larger amounts to achieve the desired effects. This frequent exposure to crack cocaine causes users to depend on this substance to help them avoid negative moods and feelings, and those who are dependent on crack will experience extreme anxiety when they are not able to obtain the drug. Because crack use itself is known to cause depression and anxiety, using it to alleviate these feelings becomes a vicious cycle quickly resulting in addiction. The pleasurable or euphoric short-term effect of the drug can turn a user into an addict after using it just once. Crack Effects Quiz question 6 Crack Withdrawal and Addiction Treatment Although withdrawal from crack specifically, and cocaine in general, does not cause as many physical symptoms as other recreational drugs, the psychological effects of stopping use can be quite intense, including:
